I went to my first TT grand prix when I was 9 years old (1969) . I
remember the 2 and 4 strokes racing each other, especially the thundering 4 strokes I remember. I also remember that things
were a bit simpler then. Big tents instead of big touring cars for riders and mechanics. The paddock was a grass field, instead
of asphalt, very dirty when it rains, and it rains a lot in Holland!!

This page I like to show some pictures and talk about the 1977 TT
at Assen Grand Prix, where I was with my dad, who had to work that week at the races, so I got to see all the big race-bikes
and racers up close. Just 16 years old and running around with a camera that i had never used before. The pictures are ok,
but not prefect. This is the year the Dutch racer -Wil Hartog- won the 500cc race that day!!

In 1976 it was so hot, that riders came in the pits lane, falling of their
bikes begging for water. I remember that people were eating salty pills to keep their water level ok. The link below has very
neat pictures of various years of the Dutch TT at Assen. Cool sounds too!! (O;

When I look at these old pictures, I think, yeah, this is special
stuff!! Don't get me wrong, I really do like these days bikes and the technology that comes with it, but these old bikes and
the time they were racing, mean a different thing to me. Racing seemed more of an extreme thing then.
A special "thanks" to Hans Staal, who provided me with information about the riders names and
bikes.
